Great News for Georgians

added Mar 22nd, 2012

Seattle-based coffee giant Starbucks announced Wednesday a plan to build a manufacturing plant right here in Augusta. Starbucks Coffee Co. will spend $172 million to construct the 110,000 to 160,000 square foot facility in the Augusta Corporate Park, according to the Atlanta Business Chronicle. The opening is expected in
January 2012.

This is great news for Augusta. First, it is this state’s first Starbucks manufacturing plant and only the company’s fifth overall. This plant expects to create more than 140 direct jobs plus hundreds of indirect jobs associated with construction, transportation and supply chain activities. With the Augusta-Richmond County Metro Area unemployment rate hovering at 9.1%, this will be a huge boost to the city’s economic development.

We welcome Starbucks to the area and are excited about the opportunities the plant presents for
many Georgians.
