Time to Drop-Ship the Donuts

added Jun 21st, 2011

Just recently, London scientists have announced a plan to change the way the logistics of grocery shopping work. Via a physical system of tunnels they have dubbed the transport internet, they would change the way Londoners shop for their food. Customers would be able to order their food through a software system, which would relay the request to order fulfillment (the grocery store), who would then "ship" the goods via the transport internet, powered by magneto-electric or air pumps. Pretty lean and green. Price tag for London? $627 million. Experts say the foodtubes would generate $125 million a year, thus paying for themselves within a decade. Is this the wave of the future? Maybe in areas as densely populated as Britain's capitol. As for those of us with yards, it's probably gonna be a long while.
